OLD DOMINION SPRING CAMPOREE

April 29 - May 1, 2011

Sixteen Scouts and Eight adults were part of the festivities at historic Harpers Ferry. Four hundred seventy some other Scouts were present for a fair weather weekend of enjoying the sights of the town, visiting with Civil War reenactors and a large service project for the Park Service. Troop 2215 earned the Golden Railroad Spike for best campsite in the District, the above patch with all three tabs, and the Heritage Trail patch for hiking the trail and finding all 38 answers to the questions along the way.

THE SERVICE PROJECT
Although the long hike through the battle field found the troop arriving near the end of the clean up, two car loads of Scouts and adults stayed an additional hour and a half to unload the trash trucks for the Park Service. Their dedication received a special recognition in the form of this paragraph in a follow up email...
Please be sure to pass on our gratitude to the two Scout Leaders and their
6-8 Scouts who stayed on an extra hour to help us unload the trash and tires at the Park's dumpster. I can't remember their names, but Steve recruited them from gate one. It would have been a huge, back-breaking job for us without them. Hilary Cooley, Creighton Waters and I are in their debt. They were immensely helpful....David Fox, Park Ranger.
