The first of many breathtaking views of the mountains along the trail.

Mr Bitgood and Mr Washechek climb one of the many steep hills.
Another breathtaking view of the mountains from the trail. A beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
The crew pauses for a water break and picture on top of the Buzzard Rock overlook. A view of Fort Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains from the Fort Valley overlook.
The crew stops at the highest point of the hike, Meneka peak, for a lunch break.
Lunch time is over, time to hit the trail. This map shows the route hiked by the Philmont crew. The total distance was 8.7 miles with an elevation gain of 2,075 ft.
The crew stops for a packs off break to hydrate and check the map as the trails were not always clearly marked. Along the trail the crew came across a Snake X-ing and proceeded to take a few pictures and help the snake off the trail so it wouldn't be stepped on.
the snake posed for a close up before leaving the trail.

Extreme Closeup!

Back in the Signal Knob parking lot, the group takes one last picture before getting some frozen custard and making a brief stop at the Apple House on the way home.
