Thousands of Scouts from across the country and around the globe gathered to march down Constitution Avenue for the first time since 1937. The occasion was the 100 Anniversary of Scouting in the U.S. and launched the Centennial Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill, VA. The weather was brutal as the temperature reached 102 and late in the day a severe storm brought 68 mph gusts of wind.
Early morning preparations along 7th Street finds floats staging and balloons being inflated.
Members of the troop prepare for the long afternoon march.

Following the parade, the troop was prepared to provide a color guard for the induction ceremony for the BSA Leadership Hall of Fame at Adventure Base 100. However, just as the rehearsal was scheduled to begin the Mall was evacuated due to a severe weather condition. Along with hundreds of other scouts, the troop found shelter in the basement of the National Museum of American History where it accounted for families (support crew members) by telephone.
Hunkered down in the museum basement with a few hundred of our closest friends. Damage to Adventure Base 100. All were blessed that the storm did not hit (with it's 68 mph gusts) during the parade.
