Jay, Robert, Ryan, Buzz, Daniel M, Karl, Daniel K, and Erik are about to become casualties to exercise the CERT volunteers skills at locating and treating a mass casualty event which has overwhelmed professional rescue workers.

Mr May organized the event and briefs the Scouts on what to expect.

Then its into the Detention Center to find the moulage artists who will "injure" the Scouts.

Oh my! Look what has happened to Robert's knee.

Jay received a nasty head injury that authorized him to act confused the rest of the day.

Karl seems unphased as makeup is applied....

to make him look like this.

Daniel has something impaled in his side.

The actors received their instructions in the Detention Facilities old mess hall.

Then their Controller took them to their positions.

Before they could be buried in the rubble, the actors had to be accounted for as no one was going home until everyone was found.

Well it is a prison and a little clowning around before the exercise begins can be expected.

How long are you guys in for?

The acting begins.....

Rubble was simulated with signs indicating it weighed several hundred pounds. The rescuers had to gather equipment and pry it off the victims.

A distressed victim encourages the rescuers to hurry.

A search team arrives and begins to systematically locate the injured...

Triage is conducted as victims are found.

Rescuers assess the situation as reports are received from the search teams.

Assignments are made and rescuers head out.

Jay's head injury provides confusing information to the rescuers.

His head is bandaged...

and his is escorted out of the building.

Daniel is told he will have to wait for a stretcher team.

Outside, the injured are cared for by rescue teams and other slightly injured victims like Buzz.

Daniel assists as the number of injured grows.

Meanwhile, inside Erik is discovered and work begins to free him from the rubble.

Finally freed, Erik is able to have his compound fracture treated.

Robert, now bandaged, awaits to be freed.

Once outside, Robert's leg is tended to.

Poor Daniel, the stretcher team did not arrive before the exercise ended.

After a hot dog lunch, and complete accountability the actors are free to return home

Scouts learned a great deal about the Fairfax County CERT program and will continue to investigate how to support the community through service such as this.
